Look, look, look! Twit-twoooo, I think he's a purdy birdy.
New Farm Clinic is a 90-bed specialist psychiatry facility fully accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards. It is located 3km from the CBD in the Brisbane suburb of New Farm. The Clinic offers a range of inpatient and day patient programs that specialise in the treatment of mood disorders, eating disorders, psycho-geriatrics and general acute psychiatry.
It's (awfully) fun to catch the ferry in the mornings to go to a program where a whole bunch of sad, troubled people sit around talking about their problems. We are made to challenge ourselves at lunchtime- compulsory desserts like jelly or chocolate mousse or ice-cream or custard, or instead of your salad + protein wrap (which is always deconstructed by all of the girls at the table, re-rolled and eaten slowly to savour it), you can have a hearty hot meal. No running to the bathroom afterwards either- you're not allowed to go until half an hour after meals.
Today I wore my wonderful home-made top again, my white and pastel polka-dot 50's swing skirt and my yellow and white 80's power bolero with shoulder pads by Howard Showers. I have no idea who Howard Showers is, but it's a great brand-name, right? On the way home on the city cat, some guy and his friend sat down next to me. They had a six pack of beer that they'd already gotten into, and I suspect they'd been drinking for a while, but they gave pretty great compliments.
"Wow, you're outfit is amazing... like Twister meets Blondie."
"I can imagine you with one of those umbrella thingies- oh, it's called a parasol? Oh, you left it at home today?"
"You remind me of Sarah Blasko... somewhat distant and reserved but still beautiful, talented, artistic, unique..."
Maybe they dared each other to strike up a conversation with the weirdest looking girl on the ferry.
