wish you were here.

So
So you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell?
Blue skys from pain?
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?

And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish
How I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year.
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

"There are many stories about Syd Barrett's bizarre and intermittently psychotic behaviour, some known to be true. According to Roger Waters, Barrett came into what was to be their last practice session with a new song he had dubbed "Have You Got It, Yet?". The song seemed simple enough when he first presented it to his bandmates, but it soon became impossibly difficult to learn and they eventually realised that while they were practicing it, Barrett kept changing the arrangement. He would then play it again, with the arbitrary changes, and sing "Have you got it yet?". Eventually they realised they never would and that they were simply bearing the brunt of Barrett's idiosyncratic sense of humour."
